Positive Trend Continues for City of Yakima

Unemployment in the city of Yakima continues at a record low pace according to the latest figures released today, Tuesday, by the State of Washington’s Employment Security Department.

The numbers show that the unemployment rate in Yakima for the month of January 2018 was 7.3 percent, the City’s lowest for that month since the state agency began implementing electronic records back in 1990. The January 2018 figure is down from the 8.2 percent unemployment rate in January 2017.

The City of Yakima’s previous low rate for January was 7.8 percent, reached in 2007 and 2008.

And today’s update also shows the City of Yakima’s average unemployment rate for 2017 was just 5.9 percent. That figure is also a record low for Yakima. The previous record low annual average unemployment rate for the City was 6.4 percent in 2016.

The Employment Security Department will issue its next unemployment update on Tuesday, March 27th.
