Railroad Track Crossing Repair to Impact Traffic on Mead Avenue

A project to repair portions of an at-grade railroad track crossing on Mead Avenue will impact traffic from the early morning of Monday, August 15th until the early evening on Tuesday, August 16th.

BNSF Railway crews will be repairing a portion of its tracks that cross Mead Avenue east of Voelker Avenue and west of 1st Street on August 15th and August 16th.  As a result, Mead Avenue will be closed to through traffic between 3rd Avenue and 1st Street from 6:00 am on Monday, August 15th through 6:00 pm on Tuesday, August 16th.

Matting that allows cars to travel smoothly over the tracks has become dislodged in the inside, eastbound lane of Mead Avenue.  As a precaution, a “Bump” sign has been placed along the eastbound lanes of Mead Avenue before the track crossing to alert drivers of the dislodged matting.  Drivers are encouraged to not use the inside, eastbound lane of Mead Avenue to cross the BNSF Railway tracks if possible until the repair project is completed.

Readerboards letting drivers know about the upcoming project will be placed alongside both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Mead Avenue near the BNSF Railway tracks crossing on Thursday, August 11th.

Because of heavy traffic volumes in the area, drivers can expect delays in and around the project area while work on the project is underway on August 15th and August 16th.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.  Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
