Road Improvement Project on 16th Avenue to Impact Traffic

A road improvement project will impact traffic along several blocks of South 16th Avenue on Monday, July 18th and Tuesday, July 19th.

The “grind and overlay” project will take place on 16th Avenue between Washington Avenue and Perry Street and will involve removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt. Lanes in both directions along that portion of 16th Avenue will be repaved.

Work on the project will take place between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm each day on July 18th and July 19th. While the project is underway, varying lane restrictions will be in place along the section of 16th Avenue between Washington Avenue and Perry Street.  Drivers will be directed through the project area by flaggers.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

For additional information about this project, contact Streets and Traffic Operations Manager Joe Rosenlund at 576-6430.
