Road Improvement Project on Walnut Street to Impact Traffic

A road improvement project will impact traffic along a two-block section of Walnut Street from Monday, July 25th through Thursday, July 28th.

The “grind and overlay” project will take place on Walnut Street between 6th Street and 8th Street and will involve removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt. Lanes in both directions along that portion of Walnut will be repaved.

Work on the project will take place between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm each day from July 25th through July 28th. While the project is underway, the section of Walnut between 6th Street and 8th Street will be closed to through traffic.  Detour routes will be in effect and drivers will be directed around the project area by flaggers.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
