Sealcoating Project to Impact Traffic

A sealcoating project will impact traffic on a portion of 48th Avenue for part of the day on Wednesday, August 15th.

City of Yakima crews will be sealcoating the section of 48th Avenue between Summitview Avenue and Tieton Drive from 10:00 am until about noon on August 15th.  As a result, that section of 48th Avenue will be closed to all traffic while the project is underway.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the project area if possible.  If drivers must travel near the area where sealcoating is taking place, they are encouraged to closely follow the directions provided by flaggers who will be on site.

While the work is underway, a 20-mile-per-hour speed limit will be strictly enforced in the project area.  Access to homes on the section of 48th Avenue being sealcoated may be restricted for short durations while the work is being done.

Sealcoating is a process by which a liquid layer of sealant is applied to the road surface to protect it from damage that water, oil, and other natural elements can cause.  Sealcoating also provides a slip-resistant road surface.
