After having been a one-way, westbound road for many years, a short section of “A” Street in Downtown Yakima is now open to two-way traffic.

City of Yakima crews recently adjusted traffic signal configurations in order to open the section of “A” Street between North 1st Street and North Front Street to both eastbound and westbound traffic.

“We’ve opened that one-block section of ‘A’ Street to two-way traffic to ensure easy access to businesses on North Front Street is maintained during the upcoming MLK, Jr. Boulevard underpass project,” said Yakima Streets and Traffic Operations Manager Joe Rosenlund

Construction of the MLK, Jr. Blvd. underpass is expected to begin in late January.  Throughout the underpass project, which will likely take about a year and a half to complete, MLK, Jr. Blvd. between 1st Street and 1st Avenue will be closed to all traffic.  North Front Street will also be closed between “A” Street and the Lincoln Avenue underpass bridge.

For additional information regarding current and planned street and traffic projects, contact the City of Yakima Streets Division by phone (575-6005) or by e-mail (traffic@yakimawa.gov).
