Sections of Beech Street Closed for Sewer Main Project Reopen

Sections of Beech Street that have been periodically closed since last summer while work related to the installation of a sewer main interceptor was underway have been reopened.

Sections of Beech Street between Fair Avenue and the I-82 underpass were closed while the sewer main interceptor project was ongoing.  The Beech Street underpass below I-82 has been closed throughout the project.

Sewer main interceptors receive wastewater from multiple main sewer lines and convey it to a treatment plant. Sewer main interceptors are the largest diameter lines in the sewer system and the furthest downstream in the system.

The project began in late August 2017 and was completed in phases by Scout Lake Construction, a Selah-based contracting firm.

Because of the project, Yakima Transit Route 6 South was detoured temporarily.  As of tomorrow, Route 6 will return to normal service, which includes access along Beech Street to and from a bus stop adjacent to the Walmart Supercenter.
