St. Patrick’s Day Iron Chef & Dance to Debut

Entries are now being sought for the first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Iron Chef at the City of Yakima’s Harman Center.

The free Iron Chef & Dance event will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16th.

“It’s a brand new idea for us,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Leslie Richards. “We wanted to have an Iron Chef competition and St. Patrick’s Day provided us an opportunity.”

Iron Chef competitors will be asked to provide samples of an Irish cuisine item, Richards said. Guinness Beer must be one of the ingredients in their prepared food entries.

Would-be “iron chefs” have until Thursday, March 1st, to sign up for the competition.

The dance and Iron Chef competition will both be held during the same 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. timeframe on March 16th. “Those who attend the dance are invited to get a taste of each Irish food entry and vote for their favorite,” Richards said.

The winner will receive a gift card and a St Patrick’s Day Iron Chef trophy.

Entertainer Gary Malner will provide Irish, Polka and rock & roll music during the event.

Besides dancing and taste-testing Irish cuisine, those attending the St. Patrick’s Day Iron Chef & Dance are invited to purchase tickets for a raffle that will be held during the event. Local businesses have donated prizes for raffle winners.

“We’re hoping it will be a ton of fun,” Richards said.
