Suspect Shot Attempting to Flee Violent Offender Task Force

Today at approximately 4:09 pm, members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force (“PNVOTF”) attempted to take into custody a 41-year-old male for arrest warrants.  The PNVOTF consists of several local, state, and federal law-enforcement agencies.

The suspect was located in a vehicle leaving a home located in the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue.  After initially being contacted by officers, the suspect stopped his vehicle, but as officers moved toward the vehicle, the suspect tried to drive away.  A member of the PNVOTF attempted to reach inside the suspect’s vehicle to place it in “park”, but was unsuccessful and fell out of the vehicle.  Another PNVOTF member deployed a taser to stop the suspect from continuing to attempt to drive away, but that, too, failed.  A Deputy U.S. Marshall, who is a member of the PNVOTF, then fired his duty weapon at the suspect, striking him several times.

The suspect was removed from his vehicle and PNVOTF officers rendered medical aid.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital.  The injuries the suspect sustained do not appear to be life threatening.

An investigation of the incident is underway.  Additional information will be provided when it is available.
