Tahoma Cemetery Tours Begin June 19th

The first in a series of 9 free guided walking tours of the City of Yakima’s historic Tahoma Cemetery is 6:30 pm next Tuesday, June 19th.

“Stroll through the beautiful, park-like setting as you learn about the history of the cemetery and the story of some of those interred within,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson.

The other scheduled tours are Sunday, June 24th at 10:00 am; Tuesday, July 10th at 6:30 pm; Sunday, July 29th at 10:00 am; Tuesday, August 14th at 6:30 pm; Sunday, August 26th at 10:00 am; Sunday, September 16th at 1:00 pm; Sunday, October 14th at 1:00 pm; and Sunday, November 4th at 1:00 pm. 

Pre-registration is required and space is limited to 25 participants per guided tour. The tours will meet in front of the mausoleum at Tahoma Cemetery, 1802 Tahoma Avenue, a few minutes before the tour begins.

This year, the tours will highlight new historical individuals interred within the cemetery, as well as a new walking route.  Wrap up the tour season with a special Veteran’s Tour on Sunday, November 4th that highlights the Civil War (G.A.R.), Spanish American War, WWI, and the Veterans section.
