The Yakima Fire Department is hosting “Take Five with a Firefighter” from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 11th at Starbucks, 5906 Summitview Avenue.
“Similar to Coffee with a Cop, this is an opportunity for the community to visit with City of Yakima firefighters and learn more about the department,” said Captain Jeff Pfaff, Public Information and Fire Prevention Officer for the Yakima Fire Department. “This is a first for us, and if it’s successful we hope to do this quarterly.”
Two days later, Yakima Fire Department officials will return to the Starbucks at 5906 Summitview Avenue to hold a free Fall Fire Safety Prevention class from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 13th.
Pfaff will teach the October 13th class, with topics that include:
· Heater systems and maintenance.
· Winterization.
· Cooking fires and the upcoming holidays.
· Smoke alarm maintenance and testing.
· Carbon Monoxide alarms and testing.
“Our goal with the class is to educate people about being aware of fire dangers as we head into cooler weather,” said Pfaff.
“Take Five with a Firefighter” and the Fall Fire Safety Prevention class are being held in conjunction with National Fire Protection Month, which is in October.
