Traffic Signal Work Will Impact Traffic at 1st and Washington Intersection

A traffic signal upgrade project at the 1st Street and Washington Avenue intersection will impact traffic in the area for most of the morning on Sunday, August 16th.

Crews from the City’s Streets Division will be installing a new signal cabinet at the intersection that will allow for flashing yellow arrow signals to control east/west traffic. The project will result in the traffic signals at the intersection being inoperable from 8:00 am to about 11:00 am on August 16th. Yakima Police Department officers will be directing traffic through the intersection while the project is underway.

During the project, traffic delays in and around the project area may occur. Drivers may considering using alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the project area are not expected to be impacted.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

For additional information about this project, contact Streets and Traffic Operations Manager Joe Rosenlund at 576-6430.
