Union Gap Man Arrested by Yakima Police for Attempted Murder

Sunday, Yakima police arrested 23-year-old Chandler Ford, whose residence is in Union Gap, for attempted 2nd degree murder, 2nd degree assault, and 1st degree burglary based on an incident that took place earlier that day.

Earlier Sunday morning, according to Yakima police, Ford broke into at home in the 900 block of 53rd Avenue.  Police say Ford then cut the neck of 80-year-old resident Barbara Borgen.  Neighbors of Borgen’s called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

When police arrive on scene, Ford struggled with officers.  At one point, he cut a Yakima Police Department officer in the face with a razor.  The officer was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released.

Borgen was taken to a local hospital for treatment and, at this time, remains at the hospital in good condition.

Yakima police continue to investigate the incident.
