Wastewater Project Will Close J Street Between 16th Ave and 20th Ave

Beginning on Monday, May 6th, the four-block section of J Street between 16th Avenue and    20th Avenue will be closed for about two weeks while work is underway on a wastewater line installation project.  Since April 28th, that section of J Street has been closed overnight, but has been open to limited traffic during daytime hours.  During the next phase of the wastewater line installation project, J   Street between 16th Avenue and 20th Avenue will be closed around the clock.

Entrances to the DSHS office from both J Street and 16th Avenue will be affected by the project, but access to the DSHS building will be maintained.  Traffic controls will be in place while the project is underway to help drivers navigate through the construction zone and to an available detour route.

Crews from TTC Construction, a Yakima-based contracting firm, have been working to install a 12-inch diameter wastewater line since earlier this year.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
