Water Project to Impact Traffic, Residents on East Viola Avenue

A project to replace an existing water main and water utility services will close a section of East Viola Avenue to traffic beginning Monday, June 14th.

The project includes replacing an aging water line and water services along East Viola Avenue between South Fair Avenue and Rudkin Road. Total Site Services, Inc. of Richland will begin mobilization on Monday, with construction starting Wednesday, June 16th, near South Fair Avenue.

Next week’s construction activities may affect access to properties periodically throughout the project area and may cause some minor inconvenience. East Viola Avenue will be closed to thru traffic between South Fair Avenue and Rudkin Road during project work hours of 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.

The project is expected to require 60 working days and be completed by mid-September, including repaving of the full road surface.

Local access to residents and businesses will be maintained as best as possible. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area when necessary.

Yakima Transit Route 12 on East Viola Avenue between South Fair Avenue and South 18th Avenue will be re-routed to East Mead Avenue for the duration of the project.

Although the project is not expected to cause interruptions in scheduled refuse collection, customers may contact the City of Yakima Refuse Division at 575-6005 with any questions or concerns.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily depending on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
