Waterline Leak Detection Survey Project to Begin Next Week

American Leak Detection of Hayden, Idaho will begin evaluating the City of Yakima’s water system on Monday, August 28th to determine if there are any existing, unknown leaks in need of repair.

The project will focus on the area between US Highway 12 and Tieton Drive from 16th Avenue to I-82.  This area includes approximately 86 miles of water mains ranging in size from 2-inch to 24-inch diameter, 2,200 valves and 750 fire hydrants.

Each day the contractor will evaluate approximately 3 to 5 miles of water main.

During the project, traffic control devices will be used to route traffic around the areas of the leak detection operations.  Although access may be temporarily restricted in the immediate areas of the work, access will be maintained for surrounding businesses.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Funding for the project is provided from the City’s Water Capital Improvement budget.

Customers who have questions about the project are encouraged to contact Water/Irrigation Engineer Mike Shane at 576-6480 or Emilio Lopez at 575-6196.
