Wind Advisory Issued for Yakima Area

The National Weather Service (“NWS”) has issued a wind advisory for the Yakima area. It is in effect today, Thursday, February 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The NWS anticipates sustained winds between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Wind speeds are expected to peak this afternoon.

It cautions that tree limbs may break. Loose or unsecured objects may topple over or become airborne.

The City of Yakima encourages residents and motorists to use extra caution during the wind advisory.

If there are power outages, they can be reported 24/7 to Pacific Power by calling 1-877-508-5088. The utility cautions that if you see a downed power line, call 911 immediately and then call its toll-free power outage line.

The advisory is due to a cold front traveling across Washington and Northern Oregon.
