Work on Reopening Section of 66th Avenue Getting Underway

A project to repair the section of 66th Avenue between Englewood Avenue and Scenic Drive begins on Monday, April 10th with the installation of elements of the stormwater drainage system.

TTC Construction, a Yakima contracting firm, will install drainage facilities and build a roadside ditch along the affected section of 66th Avenue.  The project is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

While the drainage features are being built, the section of 66th Avenue between Englewood and Scenic will be closed to all traffic.  While the work is underway, detours will be in place.  Local traffic will be allowed on the section of 66th between Englewood and Scenic at the end of each work day.  That section of 66th, however, will remain closed to traffic other than local.

Once the drainage work is completed, the section of 66th between Englewood and Scenic, damaged this winter by excessive runoff, will be repaired and repaved.  It is anticipated that the roadway will be reopened to normal traffic by late May or early June.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes in the area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
