Yak Back Update Planned

The City of Yakima’s popular Yak Back app will be unavailable next Monday, December 13th, while the City’s Information Technology Services staff update the program.

Work next Monday will include upgrading Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as well as updating GIS security. As a result, GIS and mapping services on the City website will not be available next Monday.

In April 2020, City of Yakima Information Technology Services improved Yak Back to include GIS mapping to help users track their Yak Back requests and to see locations of other Yak Back requests in the City of Yakima.

Improvements last year also included making the app available in Spanish.

Yak Back provides a way for community members to report issues to City departments such as potholes, graffiti, street lights that are out and damaged street signs. It is available at https://www.yakimawa.gov/yak-back/

Since its inception in 2012, the Yak Back app continues to see dramatic growth. So far in 2021 there have been over 2,500 Yak Back reports submitted by the public.

In addition, the public can call in Yak Back requests to 509-575-3535 and have Yak Back reports processed.

The City reminds the community that if there is an emergency situation they should dial 9-1-1 and get help on the way as quickly as possible.
